THE STUDY OF MEANING IN SEMASIOLOGY: APPROACHES AND KEY CONCEPTS

Abstract

Semasiology, as a branch of semantics, investigates the structure, development, and interpretation of meaning in linguistic units. This study explores major theoretical approaches to meaning, including structural, lexical, and pragmatic perspectives, and integrates them with empirical findings obtained through a mini-survey. The research adopts a mixed-method approach combining theoretical analysis and quantitative data interpretation. The results demonstrate that meaning is highly context-dependent and dynamically constructed through interaction between lexical items and pragmatic conditions. The study also highlights divergences between classical semantic theories and contemporary cognitive-pragmatic interpretations. The findings contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of semantic interpretation in both theoretical linguistics and applied domains such as translation and lexicography.
