Abstract

The article explores the historical and socio-political factors that have

contributed to the rise of English as a global language. It traces the initial spread of

English through British colonial expansion and its further entrenchment due to

American economic and cultural dominance in the 20th and 21st centuries. English is

presented as the primary medium of communication in fields such as international

diplomacy, science, technology, and higher education. The article also examines the role

of globalization and digital media in reinforcing the global status of English. While

emphasizing its practical advantages, the author also considers the linguistic and cultural

implications of English’s dominance. Ultimately, the article provides a nuanced

perspective on how English has shaped and been shaped by global communication

trends.
