Abstract

The importance of English proficiency has emerged as a vital skill for

engineers across all disciplines, particularly for hydraulic engineers whose work often

transcends national borders. This paper explores the pivotal role of English in

facilitating access to global knowledge, professional collaboration, academic

advancement, and career mobility for hydraulic engineers. Drawing on real-world

examples and international standards, the article highlights how English serves as a

bridge to global opportunities, from mastering technical software and understanding

international guidelines to participating in research and securing international

scholarships. The findings emphasize the strategic value of English in enhancing both

individual capabilities and the broader impact of hydraulic engineering in addressing

global challenges related to water management and infrastructure
