With improvement in hydrotechnical facilities to accommodate intelligent
technologies, communication dynamics within the systems also undergo a fundamental
transformation. From automated control systems and human-machine interfaces to
interdisciplinary coordination among engineers, environmental scientists, and policy
planners, effective usage of language and communication techniques becomes a
deciding factor in the efficiency of such hi-tech systems. This paper addresses the
language and communication contribution to the development and operation of
intelligent hydrotechnical infrastructure, referring to the impact of technical vocabularies,
machine-readable data structures, artificial intelligence-based decision-making, and
multi-lingual collaboration. On the basis of current practices and future developments,
we provide an adaptive communication strategy framework for the era of intelligent
water management systems
