Abstract

This article explores the critical role of motivation in teaching and learning English, particularly in the context of non-linguistic universities. It highlights the increasing importance of English as a global communication tool due to its expanding relevance in fields such as high technology, business, and finance. The discussion focuses on how democratic transformations and global economic integration have reshaped the role of English in higher education. The article categorizes motivation into intrinsic and extrinsic types, emphasizing their interconnection and significance in language acquisition. Practical strategies for fostering student motivation are provided, including the use of modern technologies and engaging teaching methods. The article concludes that motivation is a cornerstone of effective language education, requiring a comprehensive and dynamic approach to sustain interest and promote success.
