Abstract

This article critically examines the importance of pronunciation in achieving communicative competence in English as a Second Language (ESL) and English as a Foreign Language (EFL) contexts. Pronunciation is often considered a secondary skill in language learning, but its impact on communicative success is profound. The article explores how pronunciation affects mutual intelligibility, listener comprehension, and the overall fluency of second language (L2) learners. The study also delves into the challenges that L2 learners face in mastering pronunciation and offers recommendations for integrating pronunciation instruction into ESL/EFL curricula to enhance communicative competence.
