This article examines the theoretical and practical aspects of developing literary pronunciation in the process of teaching the Azerbaijani language. As an integral component of speech culture, literary pronunciation plays a crucial role in the development of students’ communicative and academic skills. Based on the analysis of the current teaching situation, the main problems have been identified: the influence of dialects, the lack of systematic work on orthoepy, the limited teaching-methodical and technical resources, as well as subjectivity in formative and summative assessment. It is noted that insufficient attention to these issues leads to a decline in the quality of speech training and the formation of persistent pronunciation errors in students’ speech.
